Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. She joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Then she joined NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. Beginning in 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988, she became the chief reporter for Congress. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign correspondent for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell appeared as both the host and panelist for the TV news show Meet the Press. She served on an advisory panel during the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered many notable issues, such as the arms control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended many summits with the help of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
